Overview

Like a good mai tai, Life's a Beach on Maui is one part romance, one part Maui travel guide, and with surfing lessons thrown in for good measure. It is the poignant story of three generations of surfers who live in a little yellow house above Cove Park in Kihei, Maui. When the patriarch dies as a result of an ocean rescue at Jaws, it sets the stage for a chance encounter with an old friend. A lucky coincidence brings the two old friends together and a chance to correct an error from the past. How many people get a chance for a do-over in their lives? Can Frannie and Davey find happiness and a new life together here on this island, one of a kind? Will the residences of the little yellow house be able to save their restaurant-bar and the family home? Or will they, too, fall victim to the consequences of the tourist actions that day at Jaws? Will Irene be able to find love with the help of her family, neighbors, and her friends from the Red Hat Society? Take this journey of aloha with Rose.

Rose Tigarden's LIFE'S A BEACH ON MAUI is a richly detailed introduction to Hawaii for those who have never been there, a beautiful trip back for those who have, but above all a romance and family story told with the simple immediacy of folk art in words and full of the sweetness but also the sadness and even the danger of life lived far from 'da mainland' - Michael Eric Stein, journalist for MAUI NO KA OI Magazine, essayist and novelist.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR - Rose writes strong female characters drawn from her many years surfing, sailing, and flying. She has lived on sailboats in Hawaii, Southern California, Mexico and the Caribbean. She has over thirty thousand blue water miles under her hull, having cross both the North Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, transited the Panama Canal, and worked on charter boats in the Caribbean. She has lived in Australia, Hawaii, Southern California, as well as in a nudist colony in Florida. She has worked as an extra in movies, TV, and commercials, and as a sail-maker in Marina del Rey. Also as an development assistant in Hollywood at MAKSART PRODUCTIONS where she pitched a movie "Live from the Islands", a comedy set in the Caribbean, and a TV series 'KanSu Murder Mysteries' set in Hawaii. Rose wrote 'Life's a Beach' as a screenplay while living on Maui about fictitious surfers who could have lived in the little yellow house down the street from her. She now lives in Waikiki and is writing the Tiger Princess series of crime thriller novels based on KanSu Murder Mysteries.
