Overview

In her first published collection, Jeilymar Morales attempts to cover life's many facets through poetry. In these poetic musings of life and death, love and self, passion and creativity, there is a question to be either answered or made. What is life?

"I don't have answers.

As someone who prides herself on usually having answers or the ability to obtain them, it is a hard admission. It's not easy to write to you and tell you that I, in fact, do not have answers- at least, not to the questions that matter.

I am not all together there. Not exactly a role model. My skeletons play solitaire in my closet. I could paint such vivid pictures of my various mistakes that you could consider me the next Van Gogh. I sometimes try to find reflections of the old me through bottles and I whisper goodbyes to gone friends in my sleep because I didn't have the nerve to do it in person. I get pissed and take it out on myself. I wake up in the afternoons. My diet can be compared to that of a toddler who was set loose in a grocery store. I loved and lost so hard, I became all I said I would never be.

And it still doesn't disqualify me. It doesn't disqualify me from trying to answer life's questions. It doesn't disqualify me from reflecting and sharing and failing as to what those answers may be. So despite all of my shortcomings, I am here to tell you that I think I've cracked the code!

There is no right answer. Before you say "Jeily, we already knew that", I want you to consider all facets to this statement. No right answer could mean everything is wrong. It could mean there's no one right answer, but multiple that we piece together throughout our existence. It could mean that there's no answers at all, only questions and questions that follow-up on those questions. What I mean to say, is that it really doesn't matter. You get to make it up as you go along. You get to experience life and ask as many silly or serious questions as you want.

This book is a culmination of all of my questions, all of my right and wrong answers, all of my "I don't know" conclusions. This is my best attempt at putting what can only be experienced into words.

Thanks for attempting it with me."

About the Author

JEILYMAR MORALES is, first and foremost, a dreamer, a lover and a poet. Born and raised in Florida, Jeilymar earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Arts and Minor in Business Administration from Jacksonville University in ‘22. As far as she can remember, writing has always been a creative outlet for her, though she didn’t take it seriously until after her graduation. Once creating her poetry instagram, @jeily.writes (no longer active), she made it a point to actually save her writings and share them with the world. A brief hiatus ensued after starting a rigorous touring job with Missoula Children’s Theatre, but a quarter of the way in, inspiration struck for her first published piece, “Learning you”. Jeilymar wants to thank her friends and family for always being supportive of her random dreams and goals. Special thanks to Kost, who helped make the idea of sharing something so vulnerable to the world not so scary. And, of course, the biggest thank you to herself for not giving up- not then, not now, not ever.
