An experienced Bible teacher, Arnold reproduces and comments on 52 scriptural passages to give practical guidance and provide spiritual challenges for Christians. The author offers up assertions about the prevalence of Satan’s power and the possibility of insight into absolute truth about life, as well as dire warnings about the miseries of those who lack religious conviction and the glories of those who have it. Arnold emphasizes the prevalence of divine power over worldly allurements, and hence the transformational power of renouncing a self-centered existence for the peace that a genuine faith provides. Although some observations border on triteness, Arnold’s sincere tone and references to his own life will resonate with readers, while his insistence that those who focus on their problems engage in self-defeating behavior rings true. However, perhaps the most valuable contributions of Arnold’s writing are those that affirm the significance of belief over questions of its validity.
