Lessons in Life, Love, and War
To the Dude

We've got a long way to go, and a short time to get there. I finally realized why my Dad loved that movie so much. Sure, "Smokey and the Bandit" featured Burt Reynolds at his finest, with Jerry Reed producing a killer soundtrack. But as a kid I never understood the nuances of the message.
My father was a brilliant, determined, loving man that never learned the word "can't". As a result, he ended up with a very diverse and fascinating life. He had his demons... don't we all. But he forced a positive outlook in the face of doubt. So here's to you Dad: To the dude, only the strong survive forever.

Military Service

Bravo company 2nd battalion 12th air cavalry 1st cavalry division United States Army

My father used to tell me that he served so that we don't have to. There are no winners in war, and the perils of such haunted him until his final moments. He was a 100% disabled veteran, and while I feel the loss of him leaving us too soon back in 2008? I still feel pride knowing what my father sacrificed for his country - like his father before him, and his father before him. Military service runs deep in my family, and I want to thank each and every one of you for your service.

The Book

This book was a way for my father to pay back to the people who helped him along his path through life. He wanted to find a way to prevent others from succumbing to the same pitfalls he had. My father always wanted to pay it forward and this book was supposed to be his effort at such. But unfortunately, he fell victim to his battle wounds of PTSD in April of 2008. The book was never finished, and frankly I had written off the possibility of ever recovering any portion of his unfinished work. But if you put your mind to it? You can make miracles happen.
So I have put together my father's unfinished works. His lessons in life, love, and war. I found a way to carry on his legacy, and hope that something in these pages can be of value to someone out there. Because if my father knew that naught but one individual was helped by this? I know he would be smiling. This book is a labor of love, and will remain forever free to anyone who may find it helpful.
