Here in "Lemons to Poundcake" the main character is Beige. Beige is born into two families that are distinctively different and have their own unique issues. The story encapsulates family dramas, mishaps, and misfortunes from Beige's birth until her adult years. The story doesn't stop there. Beige encounters dating, college, single motherhood, and PLENTY of baby daddy drama. Through it all, Beige continues to thrive. Remembering that life's lessons is really about perspective.
Despite the adversity, she faces in every area of her life, she blossoms.
Now, I know what you're thinking. What's that got to do with Lemons and Poundcake? Simple. Think of each chapter of Beige's life as a single ingredient. Every ingredient serving a purpose. One missing ingredient can cause that special recipe to go wrong. Imagine replacing salt with sugar in a poundcake. Ask your granny, she will tell you! ONE wrong or missing ingredient can cause the best of things to go wrong.
Here Beige allows life to take its course. She takes the lessons as they come and transmutes them into an ending masterpiece. She takes lemons - dysfunction and all of life's lessons (motherhood, betrayal, bad relationships, etc.) and she mixes it all up. Add a little heat from the oven and voila, a beautiful ending.
