An action story which combines nail-biting excitement with drama and a hint of tongue-in-cheek comedy, Vendetta is the first in a string of books to be written by Clovis, New Mexico resident LJ Ruiz in the Legend of the Defender series.

In the country of Vanoko, there is a tale of a vigilante armed with a sword who kills criminals caught in the act. When police set up a sting that allows them to successfully apprehend her, the vigilante Syrena soon finds that there is a bigger threat than herself, and it is out to destroy the lives she vowed to protect. Now she must piece together her past and use all of her inhuman abilities to stop the supernatural entity responsible for her creation. This is her fight. And it's personal.

Contains mild language, perilous action sequences, depictions of violence, and mild sexual themes. Recommended for teenagers (13+) and adults (-91)

About the Author

Growing up in Clovis, New Mexico, there wasn't a whole lot to teach me about the outside world. So I stuck with what entertained me: Video games, music, movies, and of course books.

In my teen years I took up as many writing classes as I could as well as entering spelling bees. Though I never hit any regional championships I did manage to beat the kids at my school and proceed onto the next round with a first place trophy. I did this four times before I outgrew it. After that I put my "talents" to work trying to write a story because I felt that my vocabulary was advanced enough to tell an interesting and engaging story.

In writing stories I create characters who reflect me in some way or another. There are tough characters, weak characters, some are outgoing and funny while others are mysterious and dark. I took heavy influence from video games in coming up with concepts and usually change things in my writing on a whim (For example, Syrena resembles Samus in that she would rather work alone than with others, and has characteristics of an anti-hero, inspired by Solid Snake among others.)

Legend of The Defender: Vendetta is the first in a long line of stories to come. I hope to inspire others to follow their passion and come out sharing their ideas with the world.

I'm working on more action stories as well as other books not in the action genre. Fall of 2014 will see the release of a horror compilation.
