Overview

Pervyj tom samogo znamenitogo francuzskogo romana HKH veka vyshel bolee sta let nazad — v noyabre 1913 goda. Roman nazyvalsya "V storonu Svanna", i ego avtor Marsel' Prust togda eshche ne podozreval, chto ego detishche razrastetsya v cikl "V poiskah utrachennogo vremeni", nad kotorym pisatel' budet rabotat' do poslednih chasov svoej zhizni. "Storona Germantov" — tretij tom semitomnogo romana Marselya Prusta. Esli pervaya kniga, "V storonu Svanna", rasskazyvaet o detstve glavnogo geroya i o tom, chto bylo do ego rozhdeniya, vtoraya, "Pod sen'yu dev, uvenchannyh cvetami", — eto ego otrochestvo, krah pervoj lyubvi i zarozhdenie novoj, to "Storona Germantov" — eto yunost'. Rasskazchik, s malyh let pokorennyj poeziej imen, postigaet nakonec raznicu mezhdu imenem cheloveka i samim etim chelovekom, imenem goroda i samim etim gorodom. On pronikaet v tainstvennyj krug, manivshij ego s davnih por, inymi slovami, vhodit v obshchestvo rodovoj aristokratii, i kak po volshebstvu obretaet dar dvojnogo zreniya, dar videt' obychnyh, ne lishennyh dostoinstv, no lishennyh tajny i podchas takih zabavnyh lyudej — i ne teryat' kontakta s tainstvennoj, prekrasnoj starinnoj i zhivotvornoj poeziej, pryachushchejsya v ih imenah. CHitatelyu predstoit ocenit' blistatel'nyj perevod Eleny Baevskoj, kotoryj oprovergaet pechal'no ustoyavsheesya mnenie o tom, chto Prust — pochtennyj, intellektual'nyj, no skuchnyj avtor.

About the Author

About The Author
Marcel Proust (1871-1922) was born in Auteuil, France. In his twenties, following a year in the army, he became a conspicuous society figure, frequenting the most fashionable Paris salons of the day. After 1899, however, his chronic asthma, the death of his parents, and his growing disillusionment with humanity caused him to lead an increasingly retired life. From 1907 on, he rarely emerged from a cork-lined room in his apartment on boulevard Haussmann. There he insulated himself against the distractions of city life and the effects of trees and flowers—though he loved them, they brought on his attacks of asthma. He slept by day and worked by night, writing letters and devoting himself to the completion of In Search of Lost Time.
