About the Author

Iain Crichton Smith was born in Glasgow in 1928 and brought up on the Isle of Lewis. He is one of Scotland’s leading writers, in both English and Gaelic. He taught English in schools from 1955 to 1977, after which he devoted himself full time to writing. His plays include Lazybed (Traverse) and Columcille (Stray Theatre Company).

Publications include several collections of poetry and short stories; his novels include Consider the Lilies and An Honourable Death.

His honours include an OBE, FRLS, and Honorary Doctorates from the Universities of Dundee, Glasgow and Aberdeen. He lives in Argyll.
