About the Author

Nancy M Bell, writing as Marie Rafter here,
has publishing credits in poetry, fiction and non-fiction. Nancy
has presented at the Surrey International Writers Conference and
the Writers Guild of Alberta Conference. She loves writing fiction
and poetry and following wherever her muse takes her.

Margaret Kyle
was born in Colony Bergthal, Caaguazú, Paraguay and moved to
Manitoba, Canada in 1968 at the age of six. She grew up in
Niverville and lives there with her husband. She has four children
and three grandchildren. She works at the local school with special
needs and EAL (English as an additional language) students. She has
an interest in Mennonite history and she is proud of her rich
heritage that she was born into. She, along with her sister and 91
year old mom are currently editing an autobiography that her father
wrote for his family before he passed away. She has her Bachelor of
Fine Arts. As a student she wrote an illustrated children’s book
about her parents’ life in South America from 1948 to 1968.

A very interesting look into the lives of Mennonites in Manitoba. I grew up knowing a lot of Mennonite girls, but very liberal ones. This is the real McCoy. It was fascinating seeing the large, extended families and the numerous children they all had and how their daily lives were enacted. At first I had a hard time trying to remember everyone, but soon got to know their names and characters. But I have to say, Ms. Rafter shook me to my core in a certain scene that involves chickens.
