About the Author

Mrityunjay Mohan Jha received his Master’s in Geography, M. Phil and Ph.D. in food security from Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, besides receiving training in Geographic Information System from the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing. He has worked in the areas of decentralized planning, natural resource management, social assessment and resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R). His expertise also includes imparting training in participatory rural appraisal and social impact assessment. He has been part of research/consultative group for Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, IFPRI South Asia, ADRF and World Bank. He received an Excellence Award for ‘people-centred work’ from the Centre for Land Use Management, Hyderabad in 2005. He is associated with the Intercontinental Consultants and Technocrats Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi. He has three books and about a dozen research papers published.

R.B. Singh is presently Reader and Dy. Coordinator-UGC SAP in the Department of Geography, Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi. He has specialized in Environmental Studies, Disaster Management, Remote Sensing and GIS Technology. He has to his credit 26 research volumes/books and 145 research papers published in national and international journals. He is Secretary General, National Association of Geographers, India (NAGI) and is Steering Committee Member of the IGU Commission on LUCC since 1996. He is associated with four prestigious International collaborative research programmes such as ICSSR-IDPAD, CIDA-SICI, DFID and SHARP as Project Director.
