Land of the Dying: Survivor

As Asha looks tentatively from her window, into a world now full of the dead and the undead; she wonders if there's any hope left to be found or if survival is all that remains.

Alone and confined, she's stayed safe for a year and a half, but has begun to wonder if survival is enough or whether living is about more than just staying alive. She hopes that somewhere out there are other survivors, though what sort of people they might be is hard to say; would they be friendly or just be doing whatever it takes to keep going?

Luck, instinct and fear have kept her alive so far but how much longer can they sustain her? Just stepping out the door is going to be dangerous, she's become conditioned to her existence and has no experience in the new world or at dealing with the wandering remains of those who inhabit it. But in this land of shambling corpses, are the faceless drudges truly the things to be most afraid of?

The first part of a series, 'Survivor' focuses on the story of Asha. A young woman who, on beginning her first steps into the world of adulthood finds that independence quickly becomes isolationism; then, forced into a world she wasn't expecting and wasn't prepared for, she must attempt to find her place without friends or family to guide her.

Despite the near-apocalyptic situation that surrounds her, the book draws parallels to a time in life of a person finding their place in society and asking whether they we will accept the situations they find themself or rebel against them.

About the Author

Chris Butler was born in 1985 and currently lives in the seaside town of Worthing, England. He studied Cybernetics and Electronic Engineering at university, but is currently making very little use of it by working in retail. In the spare time he’s not writing novels, he’s also training to be a preacher and is constantly hoping his books don’t sound ‘preachy’ as a result.
