Shakespeare nació en Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, at 1564. Se conoce muy poco sobre su vida, pero por 1592 estaba en Londres trabajando como actor y dramaturgo. Entre hacia 1590 y 1613, Shakespeare escribió por lo menos 37 juegos y colaboró en varios más. Muchos de estos juegos eran muy acertadas en la corte y en los teatros públicos. En 1613, Shakespeare se Villas-Boas del teatro y regresó a Stratford-upon-Avon. Murió y fue enterrado allí en 1616.

Dubbed "The Bard of Avon," Shakespeare oversaw the building of the Globe Theatre in London, where a number of his plays were staged, the best-known of which include Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth. The First Folio, a printed book of 36 of his comedies, tragedies, and history plays, was published in 1623.
