Jane Austen (Hampshire, 1775Winchester, 1817) escribio desde muy pequeña. En 1811 consiguio publicar Sentido y sensibilidad, a la que muy pronto seguirian Orgullo y prejuicio (1813), Mansfield Park (1814) y Emma (1816), que obtuvieron un gran exito. Postumamente aparecieron La abadia de Northanger y Persuasion (1818). Es una de las mas grandes novelistas britanicas de todos los tiempos.
