Overview

De bejaarde koning Lear besluit zijn rijk onder zijn drie dochters te verdelen. Wie hem het meeste liefheeft krijgt het grootste stuk. Gonegril en Regan doen hun uiterste best om hun vader van hun liefde te overtuigen, maar Cordelia, Lears jongste dochter en zijn oogappel, weigert het spelletje mee te spelen. Lear verstoot haar en voegt haar deel bij dat van de andere twee. Deze beslissing blijkt fataal voor alle betrokken partijen.
