Cut yarn leaving a long tail, thread tail through rem sts, gather tightly and fasten off. Sew ends of rows tog for each propeller. Do not stuff. Tightly gather CO edge, and sew to nose cap, spacing propeller blades evenly around.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail, thread tail through rem sts, gather tightly and fasten off. Sew ends of rows tog forming seam along bottom of each wing. Cut strip of card- board 2.25in/6cm wide x 4.5in/11.5cm long out of 4mm-thick cardboard and round off the corners of one end to match the shaping of each wing. Insert cardboard in wing. Sew wings on each side of body 1.5in/4cm from beg of tail.


BACK TAIL FIN

With A, CO 20.

Rows 1, 3: K.

Row 2 and all WS rows: P.

Row 5: K8, k2tog, skp, K8 — 18 sts.

Row 7: Change to B, K7, K2tog, skp, K7 — 16 sts.

Row 9: Change to C, K6, K2tog, skp, K6 — 14 sts.

Row 11: Change to B, K5, K2tog, skp, K5 — 12 sts.

Row 13: Change to A, K4, K2tog, skp, K4 — 10 sts.

Row 15: K3, K2tog, skp, K3 — 8 sts.

LEGS (make 2)

With B, CO 5, work 18 rows in St st.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail, thread tail through rem sts, gather tightly and fasten off. Cut two 2in/5cm lengths of drinking straw. Sew ends of rows tog, insert the straw. Sew CO edge to underbody on either side of body seam and in line with front wing seams with 6 sts bet legs, making sure the legs can support the airplane.


WHEELS (make 2)

Using E, CO 5.

Row 1: Kfb in each st across — 10 sts.

Rows 2–4: St st.

Rows 5–6: Change to D, St st.

Row 7: K2tog across — 5 sts.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail, thread tail through rem sts, gather tightly and fasten off. With right side out, sew ends of rows tog. With D section facing outward, sew wheel to lower edge of leg.


FINISHING

Weave in all ends.

Row 5: With C, K2tog across — 6 sts.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail, thread tail through rem sts, gather tightly and fasten off. Tightly gather CO sts and fasten off. Sew ends of rows tog and stuff firmly. With I, embroider a circle of 8 chain sts around C on each eye. With A, make a tiny straight stitch for the twinkle of each eye. Sew eyes 3 sts from center at row 104 of head.


STINGER

With C, CO 12.

Rows 1–6, 8–10, 12–14, 16–20: St st.

Row 7: [K1, K2tog, K1] across — 9 sts.

Row 11: [K1, K2tog] across — 6 sts.

Row 15: K2tog across — 3 sts.

Cut yarn leaving a long tail, thread tail through rem sts, gather tightly and fasten off. Sew ends of rows tog, stuff firmly and sew to base of body at back.


RIGHT LEG

With E, beg at sole of foot, CO 26.

Rows 3–12: St st, inc 1 st at beg of each row — 16 sts.

Rows 13–14: St st, CO 2 at beg of each row — 20 sts. Pm at each end of last row.
