Overview

I was writing this book right during the outbreak of Corona Virus. And little did I know that it was not just Corona outbreak, but also bipolar depression in my case! Now you might be wondering how can depression and the book be related in the very introduction. There is something common and very important in both of them. My Struggle! My struggle to not give up, to not lose and most importantly to fight back will be seen in both my games and my way of overcoming depression.
I did not realize I had depression until March 2020. I had played several tournaments by then here in the United States. I came to the United States of America in 2018. And the very next month I was here, I joined the Chess Club of West Haven city. I used to go there every Thursday and practice, gain exposure by competing with players of different levels. I have played almost twenty tournaments in those two years with wins accounting for 95% of the time. As I have mentioned earlier that I am fighting bipolar depression, there may have been instances where I played the game either very aggressively or in a very defensive manner just like my mood, either too happy or too sad. I once came across this quote from an anonymous writer on the internet which said
"You sit at the board and suddenly your heart leaps. Your hand trembles to pick up the piece and move it. But what chess teaches you is that you must sit there calmly and think about whether it's really a good idea and whether there are other, better ideas."
