Overview

"The threat of death..."

Caleb Johnson stood like stone, staring out the window of their one-room soddy. His shoulders sagged. A trembling hand folded the disastrous letter. Tears silently fell down his loving wife's cheeks.

They were being robbed. A rich Baron claimed their land as his own. Sixty days to vacate or be arrested. "Our twin girls," sobbed his wife. "They're buried on the hill. We can't leave them!"

Caleb spoke. "There's a fella I've heard of. Lives in Tombstone. U.S. Marshal. Name's Kincade. He's a good man. A fair man. A man we can trust. He'll know what we should do."

In this the eighth western novel adventure by Michael and Loahna Chandler, Kincade meets the flamboyant and utterly ruthless James Addison Peralta Reavis. He heralds himself the 'Baron Of Arizona.' Reavis claims to have title to eighteen thousand six hundred square miles of Arizona Territory: The Peralta Grant. He is suing the United States government for eleven million dollars for selling or leasing it to homesteaders, mine operators, and railroad developers.

Kincade must find the truth. He and Josephine plunge into danger and the threat of death from a murderous swindler obsessed with power. They must outsmart him.

But how?

About the Author

A professional Old West gunfighter, Michael Chandler has performed with the Great American Wild West Show at the National Western Stock Show in Denver. On eight occasions he hired on with working wranglers to drive cattle between Wyoming and Montana. He is a member of SASS Single Action Shooters Society, and an Active member of Western Writers of America. His office and mountain home are virtual museums of western artifacts and memorabilia. Two pieces created in brass and copper by artist Craig Hess are detailed models of the stage coach and train mentioned in Kincade's Blood and Kincade's Fear. Fourteen restored covered wagons, loaded with the paraphernalia a pioneer family would have hauled west, are circled within his Colorado mountain property. Visiting the Chandlers is a step back into the time of Indians and gunfighters, gamblers and saloon girls, gold strikes and train robberies. Best of all, you might meet Michele Chandler who bears a remarkable likeness to Josephine.

Michael is a former Assistant Chief of Police for the Aspen (Colorado) Police Department. He is the president of The Chandler Marketing Company and has won more than forty Silver Microphone Awards for outstanding advertising, including Best Copywriting in the United States. His marketing strategies have been featured on NBC Nightly News and ABC World News Tonight.

Loahna Chandler began performing at age three and for thirty years she sang, danced, and acted on the stage, radio, and TV, performing in a New York musical and traveling to the Pacific with a USO troupe during the Korean War. When her children Michael and sister Robin entered their teen years, she became a stay-at-home mom. She completed the fiction course offered by Famous Writers School, Westport, Connecticut, and began writing confession stories. Many sold to True Love, True Experience and True Story. Loahna switched from fiction to film when her husband Warren Chandler retired from being a TV weatherman. They spent 1977 and '78 with the Peace Corps in Chile producing audio-visual shows for Peace Corps recruitment and training as well as assisting other volunteers in presenting their projects to the Chileans in a more appealing manner than blackboards and flip charts. Back home they began producing travelogues called Venture Productions. Loahna was the researcher and script writer while Warren was the photographer and producer.
