Dalam sejarah Eropah, Zaman Pertengahan (atau zaman pertengahan) berlangsung dari abad ke-5 hingga abad ke-15. Ia bermula dengan kejatuhan Empayar Rom Barat dan bergabung dengan Renaissance dan Age of Discovery. Zaman Pertengahan adalah tempoh pertengahan tiga bahagian tradisional sejarah Barat: zaman klasik, zaman pertengahan, dan zaman moden. Dalam tempoh seribu tahun ini terdapat pelbagai jenis peristiwa dan proses yang sangat berbeza antara satu sama lain, secara sementara dan geografi dibezakan, bertindak balas terhadap pengaruh bersama dengan tamadun dan ruang lain serta dinamik dalaman. Ramai di antaranya mempunyai unjuran yang besar ke arah masa depan, antara lain yang meletakkan asas pembangunan perkembangan Eropah yang seterusnya, dan pembangunan agen sosial yang membangun masyarakat yang berpengaruh di luar bandar tetapi menyaksikan kelahiran kehidupan bandar yang awal dan borjuasi yang akhirnya akan membangun kapitalisme.
