Overview

Kay is a happy little kangaroo that loves jumping around. But she feels she is different; her feet are small and she can't jump high like the other kangaroos. Feeling discouraged, she decides to go for a walk into the woods. There, she makes a new friend. Her new friend is different too. Will Kay overcome her doubts?

"Kay the kangaroo" is a story written for toddlers. It can also be read by older children studying English as a foreign language at beginner's level.
Through this story, children can learn that everyone can be different and gifted at the same time and that friends are important!

Author's notes:
The part "Everyone here knows the story of my grandfather. He was challenged to a race by a hare. The hare was very confident and took a nap midway through the race. My grandfather didn’t stop crawling and was first at the finish." refers to Aesop's fable "The Tortoise and the Hare"
A great story for children, which you can find on the internet for free.

About the Author

The author: Elizabeth Nakou I was born in Athens, Greece. As a child I loved writing stories and playing music. That's why when I grew up I decided to do both! I have studied electronic organ and theory of music and have been awarded a Certificate by the Yamaha Music Foundation as well as certificates in Harmony, Counterpoint and Fugue by the Greek Ministry of Education. I also hold a Diploma in Translation and have attended many courses regarding the methodology of teaching English as a foreign language. Having worked for over a decade in one of the largest conservatories in Athens as a music teacher - as well as a Yamaha Key Teacher - in Greece, I decided to follow my instinct and do what I love the most. In 2014, I opened my own school, "Vrexei notes" (www.vrexeinotes.gr), where I teach English through musical activities and so much more! When I'm not teaching, writing or playing music, I spend my time with my family and my two wonderful children!
