About the Author

Lenore Horowitz, travel writer & photographer, has published the Kauai Underground Guide since 1980, the original island guidebook. She has written for Hawaii Magazine, the San Jose Mercury News, Chicago Sun-TImes, and others. Her website—www.explorekauai.com—is a popular resource for visitors. Since the 15th edition, the Kauai Underground Guide Campaign for Kids has raised nearly $100,000 for island non profits benefitting children in need. She loves the art of writing and image making, and her books show the attention to detail that makes a truly beautiful publication.

Mirah Horowitz, Lenore's daughter, has spent every summer and winter vacation on the island since before she could walk. Today she loves adventuring - scuba, hiking, ziplines, experiences that show the best of Kauai. A lawyer by training, she clerked for Judge Kim M. Wardlaw on the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and for Justice Stephen G. Breyer on the United States Supreme Court, and has served as Counsel to Senators John F. Kerry and Robert Menendez.
