Kafka's Metamorphosis
The Metamorphosis (German: Die Verwandlung, also sometimes termed The Transformation) is a short story by Franz Kafka, first published in 1915. It is often cited as one of the seminal works of fiction of the 20th century and is widely studied in colleges and universities across the western world. The story begins with a traveling salesman, Gregor Samsa, waking to find himself transformed into a monstrous insect-like creature. It is never explained in the story why Samsa transforms, nor did Kafka ever give an explanation.

Franz Kafka (3 July 1883 3 June 1924) was an influential German-language author of novels and short stories, regarded as among the greatest writers of the 20th century. The term "Kafkaesque" has entered the English language to describe situations like the ones in his writing.
