What I had to learn, was how to be persuaded to persuade to defeat the energy that has purposed itself against me to become the very negative things that were spoken over my life throughout the years of verbal and physical abuse. Demanding to overtake a thought is like waging war over a nation because they do not believe the way that you believe simply because they are considered, the outsider. How do you blend the beliefs without creating a war? But, like I said, there is no peace without war and the battle had begun before I could form completely in the womb.

About the Author

I am a fifty-year-old African American woman who has survived the odds placed against me even when it has been at my own hand. I've always had the spirit of determination in me since I could remember, back to the age of four years old, I knew I would fight my way back to authenticity so that I may stay grounded in my mental health. I battle depression like people battle substances we all have an addiction we are fighting to keep us grounded as we move through life's unbearable burdens, burdens we weren't meant to carry alone. Letting go of the things and people that hurt me the most gave me my life back and the freedom to forgive others.
