Dalton moved far away from town and the only friends he had. Now, he is on the search for a new friend, but the animal kind. He loaded up his red squeaky wagon with cages, bottles, and canning jars, clanging; and this is where his journey begins. He walked into the deep, dark woods behind his home, and he met several friendly critters. They explain to Dalton why it is best to leave them where they live, in their natural habitat, instead of a life of misery in a cage or a jar.
