Overview

Under medeltiden genomgick jordbruket många förändringar. Adelsmännen och prästerskapen ansågs vara de viktigaste medlemmarna i det feodala samhället. Men de var aldrig majoriteten: under medeltiden var nästan alla människor bönder. Inte alla jordbrukare hade samma kategori och social status. Många av dem var fria män. Bland dessa var några små markägare som bodde på sitt eget land, medan andra, nybyggarna, hyrde den feodala herren en liten tomt.
