John Carter from Mars
John Carter of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs ... I was fortunate to reach the village of Zan Dar without any difficulty. I flew over the village completely invisible, and descended slowly. I know that as soon as they see a Murgor ship, they will disappear into the woods surrounding the village, waiting to pounce on any Murgor who might be foolish enough to let the ship straighten its descent. I saw people in the village, when it dropped to within fifty feet of the ground. I stopped the ship, kept it at that altitude, and then demagnetized the hull. The ship immediately became visible, so I jumped towards the door and opened it so they could see I wasn't a Morgor. I waved to them, declared that I was a friend of Zan Dar, and asked permission to land. They agreed, and the ship slowly lowered toward Earth. The journey I took alone is over. I overcame seemingly impossible obstacles and reached my goal. Soon I had the incomparable Dejah Thoris in my arms again.
