Jaylen's Journey

Jaylen and his mother are close. She’s his biggest cheerleader when he plays football, and always encourages him to do well in school. Jaylen knows his mother has worked hard to support him and his sis- ters and brothers. When she gets sick, he doesn’t know what to do.

Jaylen’s concern for his mom starts to show when he fails a test and stops helping out at home. He might get kicked off the football team, too! Will Jaylen’s mother be able to help him see what’s most important, or will he lose his spot on the team?

About the Author

Justin Oscikofi is a twelve-year-old student at Hollis Innovation Academy. He enjoys traveling with his friends and cooking breakfast for his family. His favorite thing to do is play football on the Georgia Rattlers team. He also likes to box in his free time with his friends. In the future, Justin would like to be a football player or professional boxer. If that doesn’t work out then he would like to be a lawyer in California. It is also a goal of his to own a five-star restaurant that offers premier meats.

Young Authors Publishing is a nonprofit children's book publisher that exists to share the stories of children. We believe that all kids are story worthy and that every child should see themselves and their experiences reflected in the books they read. Our two-part mission is to produce diverse and culturally relevant children's books and to use book publishing as a vehicle to economic mobility for our young authors. Royalties from their book sales are deposited into a savings account for each young author to access at 18 to use toward their post-secondary plans.
