About the Author

Hiroshi Oda (LL.B and LL.D Tokyo) held the chair of Russian law at the Law Faculty of the University of Tokyo until 1990 when he moved to University College London to take up the Sir Ernest Satow Chair of Japanese Law. He has held various visiting professorships in Europe and the US, including Cornell Law School and College d'Europe (Brugge). He is an associate of the International Academy of Comparative Law. Professor Oda is a qualified attorney (Japan) and solicitor (England and Wales). His practice area covers foreign investment law and arbitration. He was the Japanese representative to the ICC Court of Arbitration (2004-2016) and is currently a member of the Panel of Arbitrators of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).
