Jacques the Fatalist
The main theme of the novel is the relationship between the valet Jacques and his master, whose name Diderot does not name. The host and the valet embark on a journey, the destination of which the author speaks vaguely, and to dispel the boredom of the long journey, forces Jacques to tell the stories of his love affairs. Jacques' stories are constantly interrupted by the appearance of other characters and various comic misunderstandings. Other characters in the novel also tell their stories, which, in turn, are constantly interrupted by various events.
