About the Author

Steve J. Hodges, M.D. is a fellowship-trained pediatric urologist and assistant professor of pediatric urology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He personally sees 3,000 children per year at the university's Department of Urology. Dr. Hodges has authored numerous textbook chapters and peer-reviewed articles in top journals. His areas of interest in research include the causes and treatments for dysfunctional elimination, scar prevention following surgery, and novel imaging studies in children. Dr. Hodges was the first to organize comprehensive care for children with dysfunctional elimination at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, bringing together the disciplines of urology, gastroenterology, psychology, and physical therapy. Dr. Hodges is married to registered dietitian Jennifer Hodges, RD, LDN, and they have two young girls. In addition to his clinical encounters with frustrated parents and their children, Dr. Hodges' own experiences with constipation as a child and the process of toilet training his own children have made the study of dysfunctional elimination a personal passion for him. Dr. Hodges' educational background and photo can be found here: http://www.wfubmc.edu/Faculty/Hodges-Steve-James.htm. A video about his approach to potty training, which ran on a North Carolina NBC affiliate, can be found here: http://www.wxii12.com/tutorial/index.html#my_video.
