Overview

Irene Grandi is an Italian rock singer with a passionate, strong voice. She specializes in the sort of alternative pop/rock that singers like Alanis Morissette and Sheryl Crow make on North American shores. Grandi's biggest strength is her singing; she can go from a fierce cry to a sensual moan with little effort, and on some of the weaker tracks she really packs the extra punch that the songs need. "Sconvolto Cosi" may be the best example of this on the album; her voice soars as she belts the song out with a passion rarely seen in Italian pop music. "E 1/2" is a gorgeous disco track that shows off the breathy, sexy side of her vocals, while "In Vacanza da Una Vita [2001 Version]" is a shimmering pop track that manages to match her vocals to an equally engaging song. Although she often outshines her own material, this is still a wonderful place to discover Grandi's music. Fans of female-fronted pop/rock should search this out; language is no barrier on this excellent release. ~ Bradley Torreano
