Overview

Environmental geology is an applied science concerned with the practical application of the principles of geology in the solving of environmental problems. It is a multidisciplinary field that is closely related to engineering geology and, to a lesser extent, to environmental geography. Each of these fields involves the study of the interaction of humans with thegeologic environment, including the biosphere, the lithosphere, the hydrosphere, and to some extent the atmosphere. The links between cultural and physical geography were once more readily apparent than they are today. As human experience of the world is increasingly mediated by technology, the relationships have often become obscured. Integrated geography represents a critically important set of analytical tools for assessing the impact of human presence on the environment by measuring the result of human activity on natural landforms and cycles. The book covers basic aspects of the subject, provides an example of a student research report. This book provides a separate chapter for each aspects of the subject.
