In Providence, Rhode Island, graduate student Angie Morse has discovered evidence that an ancient stone obelisk worshiped by a colonial-era cult is still in existence. Hoping to finish her studies with a career-boosting headline, she's combing the woods to find it.

As she digs into the history of the obelisk and the cult that perished at its feet, she's plagued by bizarre events and shadowy figures from her college days. The more time she spends in the ghostly forests outside the city, the more Angie starts to suspect the obelisk is exerting the same influence on her that doomed so many others.

About the Author

Vincent H. O’Neil's debut novel, Murder in Exile, won the St. Martin's Press Malice Domestic Award in 2005. It was followed by Reduced Circumstances, Exile Trust, and Contest of Wills.

He has also written the theater-themed mystery Death Troupe and two horror novels in his Interlands series, entitled Interlands and Denizens.

Writing under the name Henry V. O'Neil, he recently completed his five-novel military science fiction Sim War series with Harper Voyager. Those books are Glory Main, Orphan Brigade, Dire Steps, CHOP Line, and Live Echoes.

Brilliant horror story! Perfectly paced and gripping, with a believable and well-developed main character, Interlands is hard to put down. This novel is rich with lurking dread and Providence legends. For fans of horror, Lovecraft or New England history, this is a must read!

O'Neil's grasp of the local area, knowledge of New England history, and ability to weave a story is unmatched. His writing is tight, crisp and flows from the pages....like black dark water.....(read the book) 5 stars only because there aren't six.

I started reading Interlands while vacationing in the Bahamas. It was on a very hot humid and sunny day and I found myself missing home (Northern RI). What got me so homesick was Mr. O'Neil's superb description of the atmosphere and surroundings of the protagonist as she continued her journey into darkness. Having been to many of the backwoods in Rhode Island and Massachusetts I couldn't help but get a chill down my spine thinking, "I've been there before." The rhythm of the book is perfect.
