About the Author

Ageless author Doug Knell was born in the United States and raised in Ohio. He later enrolled at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he earned, through blood, sweat, toil, and tears and large tuition fees a Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) in Applied & Engineering Physics and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Economics.

He studied abroad for a year while in university, which gave him a unique chance to explore Western Europe, the then Iron Curtain countries, and the Soviet Union. These valuable experiences taught him all about small food portions and Communism. After graduating university, he lived and worked in Sweden for a year-and-a-half as a software development engineer, developing software no one cared about for a machine he cannot even remember. He followed that up with a stint in South Korea.

He backpacked for three continuous years in Southeast Asia, South Asia, and eastern and southern Africa in the mid-to-late 1990's and returned to travel in 2005-06 by spending a year driving around Australia when the country was still affordable and everyone was still able to call it "The Lucky Country" without laughing.

He has made Thailand his home since 2007, where he lives with his sensitive and caring wife, trendy stepson, and demanding cat.
