I knew after reading Rose and Penny this book would be good. I never imagined how good though! Yes it's a very tough subject matter but the stories were told in a way where you knew what was happening but didn't need the full details. At first when I read the beginning and saw it was recommended for 14 and up I was concerned about that age. But looking back I read Go Ask Alice at a way younger age than I probably should have, but it stayed with me and shaped my life as well as many others lives. I think this book will too. You begin to understand what goes on in the minds of trafficking and domestic violence victims and can better understand the choices that they have to make. I will definitely be waiting for the next book and will be pre-ordering it! -Dgaz98
Heavy Topics but Beautifully Written
"This book was one that I couldn't put down. Once I started it I knew that it would be one of those reads that made me want to stay up and finish it. It did not disappoint. Make sure to read the author's trigger warnings before reading to make sure you are comfortable with this read. In saying that nothing is overly graphic but the message it still there. I was relieved to notice the author's note before the book's first chapter that stated that the book ends on a lighter note. It's not a fairy tale ending, not a happily ever after, but it is an ending that leaves the reader fulfilled and at ease.
The author did an amazing job at telling the character's story. She was dealing with some very heavy topics and it was written well. It kept me on the edge and urged me to continue. The trauma that these girls go through during the story is heartbreaking. Going into this book it was beyond my normal read. I usually stick to fantasy and fantasy romance books. I am happy that I got the chance to read Innocent Lives and I look forward to more stories that this author creates. Only a few chapters in I am rooting for these two girls like never before. I rivaled at the characters strengths. It was a beautiful story of strength and endurance. I will remember it for a very long time." -Claire
