Purpose: The purpose is to present the history of, practice of, and future advances foreseen in the field of infertility. This useful book fulfills its purpose.
Audience: Although the author does not state an audience, the book is best geared to the general Ob/Gyn or to resident physicians. The authors of the chapters are credible authorities in their fields.
Features: This book covers the known causes of infertility, the evaluation of those causes, and the medical and surgical treatment options available, as well as a brief look at the laboratory science of infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, and legal and ethical issues in the field. The value of this book is in the information provided for a resident or general Ob/Gyn initiating a fertility work-up. The case presentations and the algorithms are especially helpful. The only noted shortcoming is some significant redundancy of information between the chapters as a result of having multiple authors.
Assessment: This book is notable for its concise presentation and ease of reading.
