Overview

Max Rossi lives in a world of unsettled ghosts and unbounded skeletons.

Raised in a military family, Max discovers at a young age that he is a fixer by nature. He adopts the role as he steps in to take on the responsibilities of his father in the home he shares with his mother and two younger twin sisters during his father's deployments. He adopts the role with more permanency when his father is killed on, what would have been, his final deployment before retiring to a civilian career in the Justice department. Max's mother, grief stricken over the loss of the love of her life, tumbles into years of addiction. Forcing her three children to follow her in and out of hell holes she calls homes. His inability to fix his mother's problems only fortifies his resolve. Barely in his teens, Max and his two lifelong friends, Tomás and Hanh, open an auto repair shop in Hanh's family's garage, thus affording Max the opportunity to hire a lawyer who wins the petition to have his sisters and himself permanently placed in the custody of their mother's sister, Aunt Sofie. After, he enters the military where he not only gets to apply his special skills as a fixer, but he also learns his fieldcraft and masters his skills as a Special Forces Operational Detachment -Delta Soldier. He long since recognizes there will always be that one thing he cannot fix in his life. His mother.

As an accomplished businessman, he co-owns a successful auto customization shop, the inner workings of which are turned into a cable television show, due to its equally successful mentorship program. As a fissatore, a fixer, he remains true to his calling. Fixing wrongs and setting them right for the people in his community. The invisible people who prefer to spend their lives under the radar. To them he extends special favors. Not the Don Corleone kind of favors that may find recipients indebted for life or engaging in some type of felonious activity in some warped demand for repayment. But favors rendered because doing so is as natural as breathing in air.

For his country, he continues to apply his special skills to complete clandestine missions around the world. For his community, he applies some of those same special skills to cast out ghosts and to eliminate skeletons that have escaped from closets, are now lounging around on the living room furniture, threatening to go out, sit on the front porch, and expose themselves to the world.

In Between Sunset and Dusk, Max uses his skills in aid of a friend, Detective Tomás Langley, to bring down a notorious crime lord, corrupt law enforcement officials, and local politicians, all involved in child prostitution. In the Shadows of Dusk, Max receives a visit from the ghosts of that favor past. Typically, nothing more than a slight imposition. A mere aftershock that comes with the territory. But while knee-deep in the mire, ridding himself of the problem once and for all, the ante is upped. His wife is taken.
