In the Mystic Footsteps of Saints

"We have devoted our lives to seeking knowledge of the heart; knowledge that will carry us to our soul's destination. Our arrival will be signaled by a profound inner peace; as a ship sails best in deep ocean waters, so the soul loves to swim in the ocean of Divine Knowledge. Your minds have limits, but not your hearts, for they are receptacles of endless capacity. But, you must open your hearts to this knowledge, as nothing may pass through what is closed."

~ Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim al-Haqqani

About the Author

Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqani is ranked in the top forty by Georgetown University’s groundbreaking book, “The 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World.” He is the global leader of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani Sufi Order and fortieth master of the renowned Naqshbandi Golden Chain, which dates back to Prophet Muhammad. In 1970, he was authorized to teach Islamic law (Sharia) and Islamic mysticism (Tasawwuf; Sufism) by Shaykh Abdullah al-Fa’iz ad-Daghestani of Damascus (d. 1973). For fifty years, he has promoted moderate Islamic thought, condemned terrorism and built bridges of peace and collaboration between diverse people. Heads of state seek his counsel. Pope Benedict XVI met with him in the historic 2010 papal visit to Cyprus. Shaykh Nazim has a strong following in the US, Europe, Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Pacific Rim countries. He has published numerous books and his teachings are also followed by New Age enthusiasts. In 2001, the elderly shaykh appointed his son-in-law, Shaykh Hisham Kabbani, as his global deputy and representative.
Shaykh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani is a world-renowned religious scholar featured in Georgetown University’s ground-breaking book , “The 500 Most Influential Muslims in the World”. He is the deputy of Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqani, global head of the Naqshbandi-Haqqani Sufi Order. For decades, he has promoted traditional Islamic principles of peace, tolerance, compassion and brotherhood, while rigorously opposing extremism. Shaykh Kabbani is authorized to teach and counsel students in Sufism. In 2010, he hosted HRH Charles, the Prince of Wales at a cultural event. His counsel is sought by journalists, academics, policymakers and government leaders. Since the early 1990s, he has launched numerous endeavors to bring moderate Muslims into the mainstream. Often at great personal risk, he has been instrumental in awakening Muslim social consciousness regarding the religious duty to stand firm against extremism and terrorism. Through media outreach and diplomacy initiatives, Shaykh Kabbani has helped millions understand the difference between moderate mainstream Muslims and minority extremist sects. He serves as Chairman, Islamic Supreme Council of America; Founder, Naqshbandi Sufi Order of America; Advisor, World Organization for Resource Development and Education; Advisor, Sufi Muslim Council (UK), which consults to the British government on public policy and social and religious issues.
