Overview

Where did it start? Scientist Weston Anderson already has a legacy of horror to outrun as a result of his grandfather's experiments on humans, and now the world is asking if Patient Zero in the pandemic came from his lab. When his lab is ransacked, Dr. Anderson must confront his worst fears. Did a global nightmare begin in his lab?
His efforts to contain this vicious killer that he created are thwarted by a major U.S. drug company and government operatives hoping to use it as a tool for biological warfare. But before he can save the world, he must first save his 8-month-old daughter, Reilly. Exposed to the virus and now in the hands of kidnappers trying to create a cover up, Reilly's life slips further out of Weston's hands with every passing moment. Can Weston save the world and his daughter? Or must he make the ultimate sacrifice?

About the Author

Lynne M. Smelser is an award-wining writer, speaker, and educator. She holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University, and her writing has been published in Newsweek Magazine, Education Digest, and The Journal of Literacy and Technology. Aside from these national venues, her work has appeared in many local publications throughout her writing career.

Dr. Smelser’s research for this novel began in 2012 and has included several years studying vaccines, pandemics and epidemics. This work has included examining the Center for Disease Control’s efforts to track the avian flu and the World Health Organization’s efforts to put emergency procedures in place globally. Her idea to write about this subject originated from stories she was told by my grandmother regarding living through a flu epidemic in which she lost her 6-month-old son, her 3-year-old son, and her husband.
