About the Author

Sibnath Deb is a senior faculty in Applied Psychology, Calcutta University. Earlier, he worked in a professional research company as Senior Research Manager and in an international NGO as Research Officer. He is the Council Member of the International Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect (ISPCAN); Founder Vice-President of the Indian National Society for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect; Founder Secretary of MIDSW-an NGO involved in child protection; and Member of the Board of Editors, Journal of Interpersonal Violence. He was Steering Committee Member of the UN Secretary General Study on 'Violence Against Children'. Dr. Deb has to his credit many books including Children in Agony (recipient of 'Best Book Award 2007); Contemporary Social Problems in India; Styles of Parenting Adolescents: The Indian Scenario. Also, Dr. Deb has published more than 70 research papers and dealt with more than 40 large scale studies for different agencies like the WHO, IDRC, DFID, CRS, CARE, UNICEF, the Johns Hopkins University and so on. Aparna Mukherjee, M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Applied Psychology, has worked on two research projects-one on the impact of early marriage on girl children and the other on perception of health service providers about care and support services for the HIV/AIDS patients. She has five years research experience in the field of early marriage, child sexual abuse and HIV/AIDS. Her areas of research interest include child trafficking, behaviour of high risk group people and prevention of early marriage.
