I Want a Pet: A P-E-T
I Want a Pet: A P-E-T was born out of a dads sincere but fun-loving attempt to help his sons cope with not being able to have a cat or dog due to one of them having allergies. Dad devised a game the family could play when riding along in the car, waiting for food to arrive at a restaurant, or sitting in the confines of their living room. That game led to this wonderfully illustrated book. The books catchy cadence and simple, repetitive rhyme will charm young minds. It unlocks the imagination and allows children and adults alike to own pets they never thought could be their own, from the typical dogs and cats to polar bears and pandas.

CHAPTER 1

Allergies. Why did they have allergies? It's a question Alexander and Christopher often asked. Both had allergies that prevented them from eating certain foods.

Alexander also was allergic to dog and cat hair. In some ways, that was the worst. The brothers loved animals and longed for a pet. But they knew they had little hope of getting the usual dog or cat.

One day, they decided to ask Dad about having a pet.

"Dad, I want a pet," Christopher declared.

"Would you take care of a pet?" Dad asked.

"Yes."

"Are you sure?" Dad asked.

"Absolutely."

"Well, until we find out what kind of pet you can have, why not have all the pets?" Dad said.

"All the pets?" echoed Alexander.

"Sure, all you have to do is pretend," Dad said.

"Just use your imagination and you can own any pet you want. Just begin, 'I want a pet, a P-E-T,' and then say the name of the pet you want."

"Can it be any animal?" Alexander asked.

"Sure," Dad said. "Give it a try. Be creative."

So Alexander and Christopher began imagining the many animals they could have as pets. Here is a short list of their pet wishes. Beware. Some are scary and kooky. But others are cute and cuddly.

I want a pet, a P-E-T. It can be an ELEPHANT.

It doesn't matter to me.

I want a pet, a P-E-T. It can be a HIPPO.

It doesn't matter to me.

Things got more and more interesting as Alexander's and Christopher's imaginations kicked into high gear.

Their pet wishes included a deer, a hyena, a wolf, a bear, a kangaroo, a mouse, a moose. You name it, they claimed it.
