Overview

This first chapbook explores the relation of experience, self-reliance, and reconciliation of the past. With loss comes a resounding conclusion the chance to make amends is gone. Many of these poems are distinctly mine, but others in this collection belong to my brothers and sister; my father and mother; and to others who hide the truth. We are not martyrs or survivors, clinging to the sentimental or grandiose, looking for attention. To the contrary, we are living in quiet and only remember the past in pieces and repressions. This is for us, because we are not alone and the past as a distant tendril of memory that should not need our defenses. Our past is beautiful and it should be remembered that way.
