I don’t have a dog. I have an alarm clock.

I don’t have a dog. I have a dishwasher. 

I don’t have a dog. I have a homework excuse. 

I don’t have a dog. I have a security system.  

. . . 


I know what you’re thinking. He kind of looks like a dog.  

So maybe he is a little hairy and a little smelly. 

His breath is bad, and his ears are too big for his head.  

He snores when he sleeps, and he barks every time the doorbell rings.

But he is loyal and kind and brave. He knows when I’m sick or sad. He gives me kisses when I’m hurt and plays with me when I’m lonely. 

So please don’t ask me if you can pet my dog . . .
I don’t have a dog. I have a best friend.
