About the Author

Professor Washington is a retired educator and the mother of two lovely, neurodivergent young adults. Nylah, her oldest daughter, was not diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) until she was 14 years old. Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects people's interactions, communication, learning, and behavior. As she searched for support services, Professor Washington became aware of a disparity in resources in the African-American community. This book was written to encourage others to embrace differences and foster understanding for the ASD community and their friends and family.
