To put it simply, to humble yourself means to check with God first! Then obey His instructions—let the Holy Spirit direct your actions and reactions. Cast all your care upon the LORD and trust Him with the outcome. We have to recognize that we are powerless without God, and we need His guidance and help. We must be willing to bow to our own way and our will to the will of God. We can take the pressure off of ourselves like Jesus did.
Jesus said in John 5:30, "I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me."
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. (KJV, 1 Peter 5:6-7)
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. (NKJV, Proverbs 3:5-6)
