Overview

What I hope readers gain from our entertaining travels with Huey and the other hummingbirds, and a look into what might be the mind of a hummingbird, is the question of how we can replant and help the hummingbirds recover here in the Western United States that has been severely devastated by fire, with vital nesting grounds for these birds, and others, has been removed.
Without focused management, an effort to restore the balance in the forested and flowering areas that hummingbirds depend on, regardless of climate change, these populations will continue to show a significant decline in their numbers.
The lovely Rufus, and ruby throated hummingbirds, can be attracted to backyards, and meadows, by planting different kinds of honeysuckle, columbine, trumpet creeper, sage, lupine, and petunia. The air is alive when you have hummingbirds near you.

About the Author

Living, teaching, and studying in China for 16 years, I traveled a great deal and learned a little about China and Chinese culture. I've tried to recall some of those things, and explore them in my novels of historical fiction.

My love of field ecology began on the Big Island of Hawaii, and exploring with my classmates at University of Hawaii, and then at Western Washing University.
I studied Sports Medicine, and Traditional Chinese Medicine at Beijing Sports University
I received my Masters in Education at Texas State University
I've taught science in various parts in the world, Asia, East Asia, and South America, and here in the United States, and I've watched as the ecological problems here and abroad have gotten worse over the past 50 years. The series of stories, Mother Nature has a Problem, is my way of drawing attention to these problems in a fanciful way, so that both children, and adults who read them with their children, and grandchildren, can talk about these problems and come closer to solving them.
