The twins are sad and miss their dog, Rusty. Angel Paulette’s first assignment is to help Morgan and Delanie deal with the loss of their pet. With the help of the Self-Esteem Angel, Paulette takes the twins through the process by talking about the experience and how to express the emotions: “I miss when Rusty used to come and lay his head on my lap when he knew I didn’t feel well.” “It is important to accept that sadness can hurt and make it okay for you to feel sad about it. You also need to make it okay to cry about it. Crying releases the sadness.”
The Angels then ask the twins to share some fond memories they had with Rusty. Delanie and Morgan talk about their unique and fun memories like; covering him with sand at the beach, chasing him around the bases, and teaching him to roast marshmallows over the campfire.
“Delanie, remember when we took him on the boat ride, and he wanted to come in and be in the tube with us?” “Yes, and he fell into the water. I do remember that. Rusty was so wet he shook all the water off and got Daddy soaking wet!” The twins giggled as the memory filled their senses.
The story concludes with a talk about how to move on. “And when you go to bed maybe you could kiss each other’s forehead so you don’t miss him so much. I think Rusty would love it if you did that in his memory.”
