About the Author

John N. Edwards is a Professor of Sociology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He received his Master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Nebraska (1962 and 1965). His primary research interests concern issues related to marriage and the family. He is currently a co-investigator on a U.S. longitudinal project dealing with marital change and instability over the life course. He has written several books and numerous journal articles. Theodore D. Fuller, Associate Professor of Sociology at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, received his Master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Michigan (1972 and 1977). Since 1974, Dr. Fuller has worked extensively in Thailand, primarily in the area of rural-to-urban migration. He has published one book, several chapters, and numerous articles based on his research in Thailand. Sairudee Vorakitphokatorn is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Institute of Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Vorakitphokatorn received her Master's and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Illinois (1975 and 1979). She has conducted several research projects on AIDS. She is the author of numerous papers and reports.
