Hickman (Fantastic Four: The Complete Collection, Vol. 2) weaves several story lines set at disparate points in X-Men history in this epic tale that obliterates the status quo and sets the stage for a new era of adventure. In the distant past, virtually all of X-Men history is recontextualized by the revelation that longtime mutant ally Moira MacTaggert has been reincarnated multiple times, that she retains all of her memories' past lives, and that she, Professor Charles Xavier, and Magneto have been working toward the formation of a mutant nation on the island of Krakoa since the X-Men's inception. In the present day, the X-Men travel into deep space on a desperate mission necessary to ensure that the dream of a mutant homeland becomes a reality. A century from now, a group of mutants wage war against the robotic rulers of the Earth, and in a story set a millennia in the future, the winners of that conflict find themselves on the verge of assimilation by an alien collective.
