Three treasures of Dr. Seuss are brought to life by three distinguished narrators. Dustin Hoffman expertly depicts Horton the Elephant as he champions the tiny-voiced citizens of Whoville and perseveres to keep their cherished speck out of beezlenut oil. Next, Billy Crystal portrays Horton as he endures ridicule, hunters, and circus rings to hatch Maysie Bird’s egg. Crystal is a master of distinctive characters, including a comical Maysie, and of fast-paced, exciting narration. Mercedes McCambridge infuses all the creatures with personality as Thidwick the Moose’s antlers fill up and weigh him down on his travels to the far distant shore of Lake Winna-Bango. Jaunty music and sound effects complete the recording. A.R. © AudioFile 2008, Portland, Maine
