Overview

"Part historical fiction, part thriller...A sweeping, satisfyingly scandalous portrait of womanhood in Queen Anne's Britain"..... Kirkus Reviews

Includes book club discussion questions.

In an era when women could not chart their own futures or even chose their husbands, four women find their lives dominated by the charming, unscrupulous Viscount Brentwood.

Honor Rashleigh, well educated goddaughter of Queen Anne, finds herself forced by family tragedy to live almost as a servant under Brentwood's roof. Against her will, Mendolyn Turnbull is married off to a lecherous old nobleman for her father's financial gain, and turns to Brentwood for help. Led by Brentwood into betraying her influential family, Kinna Tremayne faces a horrifying fate. Brentwood's wife Eloise lives in constant fear of her life at his hands.

From a harrowing escape from the Tower of London to the daring rescue of children whose lives are in jeopardy from their father's greed, this is a story of courage, resilience, survival and love in a time of political and religious unrest.
The charm and perils of England in the early 1700's come to life in this absorbing, richly historical romantic thriller.
